New bagel sandwich shop coming to Kettering

Toledo-based Barry Bagels will enter the Dayton-area market with a restaurant at 4313 Far Hills Ave. in the former Sumera Sushi space in Kettering, Barry Bagels Franchise Holdings CEO Jim Nusbaum said today.

The 1,800-square-foot restaurant will serve sandwiches, soups and salads, and will offer delivery and catering in addition to seating for 35 to 40, Nusbaum said. It will hire 30 to 35 people.

“If everything goes perfectly, we should be open by the end of the year,” Nusbaum said.

Additional locations are planned.

“We’ll probably look to do a total of two to four locations depending on what is available,” the company CEO said. “We may look to do something near the University of Dayton’s campus.”

The space on Ohio 48 near Shroyer Road is adjacent to Firehouse Subs in the same retail center that also includes the Dayton area’s first PizzaFire restaurant, which opens Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Barry Bagels operates five restaurants in the Toledo area and shops in Columbus, Cleveland and Sandusky, as well as one in Ann Arbor. The Kettering location will be operated by local franchise owners Eric and Jennifer Fester and their franchisee partner Cody Klueter, Nusbaum said.
