New Butter Churn Cafe serving up lunch, dinner and sweet dessert

Waynesville has another lunch-and-dinner dining option in the downtown portion of the village.

Butter Churn Cafe opened earlier this month at 57 S. Main St. It fulfills a long-time dream of its founder and owner, Waynesville native Herchelle Shipman.

“I have lived in Waynesville all my life, and I've wanted to have a restaurant or cafe for many years,” Shipman told this news outlet today, Nov. 26. “This building came up for sale right in the middle of Main Street, so we decided to do a cafe here. We had a lot of obstacles, but it's been worth it.”

The new restaurant serves muffins, cakes and other house-made baked goods. It also makes its own waffle cones, in which it serves scoops of ice cream from Young’s Jersey Dairy near Yellow Springs.

Customer favorites so far have been a tomato soup that has mac and cheese in the soup; a seasonal pumpkin soup; and a signature grilled-cheese sandwich, Shipman said.

Butter Churn Cafe seats 26. It is open Monday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
