MOD Pizza will open its first Dayton-area location in the Cornerstone of Centerville, its developer announced this morning.
MOD Pizza is a Seattle-based fast-serve pizza chain that entered into an agreement with a franchise partner, Lexington, Ky.-based Cool Dough Development, last year to develop three to five restaurants in the Dayton-Springfield region and more in southwest Ohio, franchisee managing partner Garyen Denning told this news outlet in September. The pizza chain’s web site shows the Cornerstone restaurant and two other locations — one in Gahanna in suburban Columbus, another in the Oakley area of Cincinnati — as “coming soon.”
The new Cornerstone pizza shop will be similar in build-your-own personal-pizza concept to the Kettering-based Rapid Fired Pizza, which recently opened its second Dayton-area location and has signed leases to open four more in the coming months in the region; and to Cleveland-based pizza chain PizzaFire, which has signed a lease to open its first Dayton-area restaurant this spring on Far Hills Avenue in Kettering.
Officials with Oberer Companies, developer of Cornerstone, said in a release that MOD Pizza has signed a lease for a 2,500 square-foot-restaurant. It will be located along Wilmington Pike in the “Shoppes III” retail center at Cornerstone, the retail-residential-commercial development near I-675 and Wilmington Pike.
Oberer also formally announced that Panda Express, a fast-casual Chinese restaurant concept, closed April 1 on a free-standing restaurant site of just under one acre, where the chain plans to construct a 2,593 square foot restaurant along Feedwire Road near Costco Warehouse. It too will be the first for the chain in the Dayton-area market. Plans for that restaurant had been filed last year with the city of Centerville.
