The victim may have been an innocent bystander, the police supervisor said, but police are continuing their investigation to confirm that part of the shooting. Witnesses are not cooperating with police, the officer said.

The lack of cooperation has left police unsure whether they are looking for two -- or more -- people who were firing guns, the officer said. The victim was found in the parking lot of the housing complex, in the rear of the 800 block of Danner Avenue.

News Center 7’s Sean Cudahy said he counted about 30 evidence markers police had put on the ground at the scene to represent shell casings.

UPDATE @ 6:52 p.m.:

A caller to 9-1-1 told an emergency dispatcher/operator he was in his residence on Danner Avenue in Dayton when he heard what sounded like rapid gunfire.

He told the emergency operator, with the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center, he could see the male victim down in the parking lot, bleeding.

When the operator asked the man whether he could go outside to check on the victim, the caller said, “It’s shooting out there!” he said. “I’m not going out there!”
