A record 21K ducks dropped during Saturday’s URS Rubber Duck Regatta

A record 21,000 yellow rubber ducks were dropped into the Great Miami River Saturday during the United Rehabilitation Services’ (URS) 16th Annual Rubber Duck Regatta.

“This is such an exciting event and a great way for families and individuals to get involved, help all those people in the community who really are facing serious challenges,” URS Executive Director Dennis Grant said at the July 27 kick-off.

The URS Rubber Duck Regatta dropped rubber ducks from Riverside Drive Bridge into the river Saturday, Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. at RiverScape MetroPark during the Hispanic Heritage Festival.

Prizes were awarded to the top eight finishing ducks, including a five-night stay on a two-bedroom floating home on Norris Lake and $1,000 from Kroger.

All proceeds benefit vital programs and therapies for local children and adults with disabilities in the community.

“$5 to get one duck in the race or the famous quack pack is six ducks for $25, but all that money goes directly to services,” Grant said. “All of our sponsors pay for the expense of the event and our overhead has been under 10 percent for the last seven years so you know more than $9 out of every $10 we raise is going straight to the people we serve.”
