Downtown Springfield restaurant to close permanently Saturday

A family-owned local restaurant is closing its doors for the last time this week after a dozen years in downtown Springfield.

The brother-sister team of Doug McGregor and Margaret Mattox opened Seasons Bistro, taking a chance on the rebirth of downtown Springfield. The restaurant focused on offering seasonal products from local farmers said in a Facebook post Tuesday that it would be closing for the last time this Saturday, May 23.

In the post, the owners said that when they started the restaurant in 2008, one of their goals was to help revitalize the downtown area. They wrote that they believed they had helped achieve that goal, but wanted to hand off the South Limestone Street location to someone with their own vision for Springfield’s downtown dining.

Ultimately, the owners said that they have “new dreams” to pursue and were looking to simplify their lives, although they added they will continue to operate the Seasons catering business.

Finally, they said that if anyone is looking for a great chef, they had one available for hire, and concluded, “So while this is one of the hardest things we have ever done, we will try to embrace this change and anticipate new adventures. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. We will always hold the memories of these 12 years close to our hearts.”
