Yellow Springs Brewery and 91.3 WYSO have again teamed up to brew Vox Populi, a WYSO-inspired Pilsner for community-minded beer drinkers — and for the first time, the easy-drinking brew will be canned and sold in the retail market this year.
Vox Populi will be on draft in the Yellow Springs Brewery taproom and in the Dayton market in six-packs of 12-ounce cans for $9.99, according to YSB co-founder Lisa Wolters. The Yellow Springs Brewery will host a can-release party at noon on Aug. 24 in its taproom, and then six-packs of the beer will be available at select beer retailers in the Dayton-area market the following week, Wolters said.
Vox Populi, a Latin term meaning ‘voice of the people,’ is made with German malt and with hops from Germany and the Czech Republic, according to a YSB release. The beer has an alcohol level of a relatively tame 4.8%, making Vox Populi a “fine choice for outdoor summer events” such as the 91.3 WYSO Listener Appreciation Concert, which will be held for the first time at Levitt Pavilion in Dayton.
Vox Populi Pilsner will be on draft for concert attendees to purchase. The WYSO-sponsored concert, featuring Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Levitt Pavilion in downtown Dayton. The Pullouts will open the show.
YSB’s owners describe the event as “a free, family-friendly, wear-your-dancing-shoes kind of concert.” Each six-pack of Vox Populi will include a koozie that touts the WYSO Listener Appreciation Concert.
Yellow Springs Brewery opened in April 2013. It has grown steadily since then, expanding its brewhouse and adding production equipment in part to accommodate retail sales of canned beers, and it also purchased the former Village Lanes bowling alley in Yellow Springs for use as a distribution center.
