Victim identified in deadly Germantown crash

A crash that occurred on North Cherry Street in Germantown has been confirmed to be fatal.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Thomas Hickey, 67, of Germantown.

Hickey’s car reportedly traveled through the parking lot and broke through a couple of fences at The Dupps Company, in the 500 block of North Cherry Street, continued down a grass embankment and into the creek. The crash site is behind the Dupps plant, where rendering equipment is made.

David Tablett, a North Cherry Street resident, said he found the car in the creek after hearing a car horn and running to the headlights he saw coming from a ditch off Cherry Street.

“I tried to get him out and checked for a pulse,” Tablett said.

He then ran back to Cherry Street to flag down police and a medic unit.

“I feel sorry for him,” Tablett said. “I feel sorry for the family.”

A caller to 9-1-1, frantic, said, “there’s a car that’s went into this creek! Somebody’s dead! He’s stuck in the car! He’s dead!”

The call was made from an address on North Main Street, which runs parallel to North Cherry Street. The incident was dispatched about 9:12 p.m.

“We heard a big crash! My son-in-law went down there and they can’t get him out!”
