Want to see downtown Fairborn on HGTV?

Fairborn city leaders are asking residents to submit videos showcasing what they love about the city so that they can submit a video for HGTV's Home Town Takeover.

Erin and Ben Napier, hosts of the HGTV show Home Town, will head to a small town somewhere in the U.S. for a Main Street makeover, and Fairborn is hoping to make the cut.

City officials are asking residents to submit a video that is 30 seconds or less explaining something they love about Fairborn, and a building, house, or area downtown you would love to see get a makeover. To submit a video, residents can direct message the city’s Facebook page or send them to info@fairbornoh.gov.

To enter for a chance to be on the show, a town must have a population of 40,000 or less and either some older homes that need a face lift or a Main Street that needs a makeover.

The city plans to highlight the old Fairborn Theater, among other spots, in downtown Fairborn for the makeover, according to Fairborn Communications Manager Meghan Howard.

“Fairborn is such a unique place, and this year we’re celebrating how we came together 70 years ago,” Howard said.

Fairborn was founded in 1950 when the villages of Fairfield and Osborn merged. Downtown Fairborn is the first part of town that existed as the new city, Howard said.

The Fairborn Theater, located at 34 S. Broad St., was the first building in town to have the name “Fairborn” on it.

“So what better way to continue to come together to revitalize Main Street? That’s where it all began,” Howard said. “We plan to put our best foot forward, but also show parts of town that could use a little love.”

Video submissions need to be in by Wednesday, Feb. 5, to be included in the city’s HGTV submission video.
