Protests have been held across the Dayton region in solidarity with others in the U.S. targeting racial injustice.
The protests come at a time of growing unrest in cities across America ignited by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on Memorial Day. Floyd died while in police custody. Officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck for nearly eight minutes, was later charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Other protests going on in the Miami Valley this week:
- RIVERSIDE: A protest is planned for Tuesday, June 23, outside of Stebbins High School, 1900 Harshman Road, from 6 to 9 p.m. The school is not involved in the protest, so protesters cannot park in the school's parking lot. Those attending are encouraged to wear black and face masks and to bring signs and water with them.
- MIAMISBURG: A rally for racial equality will take place Tuesday, June 23, at 7 p.m. at Miamisburg Riverfront Park. Signs, black clothing and masks are encouraged. There will be a donation table with resources available as well.
