Nation’s largest BBQ chain to open 10 more restaurants across SW Ohio

The nation’s largest barbecue restaurant chain has its sights set on southwest Ohio, with plans to open as many as 10 more locations in the region.

The local franchise owners of Dickey's Barbecue Pit , which opened its first Dayton-area location in Springboro just five weeks ago, are actively scouting out potential sites in areas such as Fairfield and Liberty Twp. with an eye toward growing the chain's presence in a seven-county area in the southwest corner of the state.

“We try to be very methodical,” said Randy Daniel, the co-franchisee with his brother Kevin for Dickey’s Barbecue in the region. “We want to open good, solid restaurants that provide great food and great service, as opposed to just opening restaurants as fast as possible.”

The Daniel brothers oversee two other Dickey’s locations in addition to Springboro — in Mason and South Lebanon — and plan to add as many as 10 more locations over the next decade, Dickey’s officials and Randy Daniel said.

Initially, the Springboro restaurant — at 752 Gardner Road across Ohio 741 from the Settler’s Walk retail center — is expected to be the northernmost in the Dickey’s presence in southwest Ohio. But Daniel made it clear he and his brother have not ruled out shifting their expansion efforts farther north in the future.

Daniel described the customer response to the Springboro restaurant during the first month “very good.”

“We’ve had a lot of positive comments,” Daniel said. “It has opened very well.”

Laura Rea Dickey, CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc., said in a release, “Dickey’s Barbecue Pit always has been a family-run, family-oriented business and that is something we pride ourselves on. Having experienced franchisees, such as the Daniel brothers, eager to open new locations is a testament not only to the success of our business, but the brand as a whole.”

Founded in 1941, Dallas-based Dickey’s operates more than 550 locations in 45 states, including three in central Ohio north of Columbus. Each Dickey’s offers traditional Texas-style barbecue meats that are smoked in-house at each restaurant.

The Springboro restaurant's regular hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For more information about the Springboro location, check out its Facebook page or call (937) 550-4826.
