Deployed soldier surprises mother at graduation

A Minnesota woman’s graduation day turned even more emotional when her son, fresh from a military tour of Kuwait, arrived to present her nursing pin.

Margaret "Penny" Pearson had achieved a lifelong goal of becoming a nurse and was waiting to get "pinned" along with 35 of her Rasmussen College School of Nursing classmates on Wednesday, KARE reported.

As her name was announced, Pearson’s son — U.S. Army Sgt. Dustin Pearson — shocked her as he approached to handle the traditional pinning ceremony. Traditionally, the graduate chooses a loved one to present them with their pin. Pearson had been disappointed that her son could not be the one to do it, so her friends at Rasmussen planned the surprise, KARE reported.

Pearson burst into tears at the sight of her son, and they walked away with their arms around one another.
