Police said an argument ensued and the man was punched multiple times by a boy, causing him to fall to the ground.
The man's fiancée was slapped by the 14-year-old girl, causing her glasses to break, police said in a probable cause document.
The woman told police that, when she called 911, the group grabbed the Hawaiian rolls and left.
Arriving officers said the man had visible injuries and the woman reported having pain on the right side of her face.
Police said they located the teens a short time later near Cal Anderson Park.
The boy who allegedly punched the man told officers, “I did not rob anyone. I only punched him and took his rolls, but I don’t have them. I threw them by the stairs,” according to the probable cause document.
The couple went to the emergency room at Swedish First Hill and were later picked up by police to identify the suspects.
Police said the woman identified the 14-year-old girl with 100% certainty while the boy was identified with 80% certainty.
Both teens were arrested on investigation of robbery.
Police said they spoke with the man two days later, and he told them he had suffered a fractured jaw and a fractured eye socket.
The couple told officers they were afraid to go out in public over fear of retaliation.
