Authorities did not immediately know whether the Secret Service agent was targeted.
"The Secret Service is very heavily involved and, citing national security, there's very little we have on our side," a police source told the Daily News. "It's a very big deal. … There's data on there that's highly sensitive.”
The items were stolen while the vehicle was empty and parked in front of the agent's home in Brooklyn, New York, unidentified police sources told WCBS.
A surveillance camera caught images of a man wearing dark clothing getting out of a car on the agent’s street Thursday morning and later carrying the stolen bag, according to the news station.
Police continued to search for the laptop Friday.
