Man sells VCR on eBay, gets heartwarming thank-you letter from buyer

On eBay, you sell, someone buys, feedback is left and that’s normally the end of the transaction. Unless you purchase from the same seller, you rarely reconnect.

But Matt Shoukry’s story is different.

The St. Louis man was getting rid of an old VCR.

"There is a need for VCRs out there because it's something you can't go to Best Buy or Walmart and get," he told KTVI.

But this transaction didn’t end once the buyer got the item he purchased.

Shoukry said he got a letter from an 86-year-old man from Phoenix who bought the technology most would consider outdated, KTVI reported.

The letter was thanking Shoukry for his “generous selling” of the VCR.

The man named Don told Shoukry in the letter, “I watched tapes of my retirement party from 25 years ago which I had never seen before. Jeez, were we young. then a tape of my wedding with all the family and friends, many of which are no longer around. Then skiing trips, kids growing up, travels, and most importantly the gentle maturing of my family.”

Don went on to tell Shoukry, “I thought you would appreciate how much someone has enjoyed your offer.”

Shoukry said he will keep the letter, and plans on framing it, displaying it near his desk. He's also going to reach out to Don and offer to digitize the videos so he doesn't lose the memories when the tapes degrade, KTVI reported.
