City of South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows said the two male suspects approached two officers and one of the men got into an argument with one of the officers. That’s when the other officer grabbed his gun and shot at the men.
That officer shot both of the men in the arms and legs, but he was also shot in the stomach in the process, police said.
"Certainly, the wrong victim for them, but he was able to defend himself and do a good job," Atlanta Deputy Police Chief Jeff Glazier said.
All three were taken to the hospital and listed as stable. The other officer involved in the incident was not injured.
Meadows said the injured officer is going to be OK and was in good spirits when he talked to him Saturday afternoon.
Investigators are not releasing the names of the suspects at this point.
So far, one of the suspects has been charged in the incident.
