The man was admitted Friday to Uppsala University Hospital in Uppsala, a city about 40 miles from Stockholm. He was being kept in isolation.
Kohler said the man returned to Sweden about three weeks ago from a trip to Burundi, but didn't visit any areas affected by active Ebola outbreaks, Swedish news source The Local reported. Kohler said, however, the patient displayed potential symptoms of Ebola, including vomiting blood, upon arrival at the hospital.
Ebola is a rare but severe and often deadly disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms include fever, severe headache, muscle pain, fatigue, diarrhea and vomiting.
