Police in New York are looking for the driver of an SUV who they said tossed a puppy out of the vehicle.

Law enforcement officers received a call on Wednesday from someone who saw a dog being thrown from a dark-colored SUV on Long Island, PIX reported.

The dog ended up being an 8-week-old pit bull mix.

The caller was a veterinarian assistant on his way to work, News 12 Long Island reported.

Michael Koemm said at the time, there was not much traffic and it was snowing, News 12 reported.

The puppy was rescued and taken to an animal hospital to be checked out. She was not hurt in the ordeal.

The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $2,000 reward and the NYS Humane Association is offering an addition $1,000 for information leading to an arrest, PIX reported.

Koemm is going to adopt her and name her Elsa after the "Frozen" character, News 12 reported.
