The rescue happened Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of a Target in Hillsboro, Oregon, KGW reported.

Smoke was flowing from the car as it overheated, police said.

The mother came running from the store and tried to open her vehicle.

"They were crying, super-panicked," Divya Pratap told KGW. "Once I felt there is a kid in the car, I just go all in. The mom came running out. Even she couldn't open the doors with the key. We pretty much had to go all in and pull the kids out of the window."

Police said the children were OK.

The mother, who was in the store for about 15 minutes, was given a citation for second-degree child neglect, KGW reported.
