A 4-year-old boy has major injuries after a pickup truck hit him while he was wandering along a California highway.
California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Doerr told KSWB the crash was reported around 12:05 a.m. Tuesday.
KFMB reported that the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado saw the boy walking on an off-ramp of Interstate 15 in City Heights, California. According to the station, the male driver was driving up the ramp and hit his brakes, veering the truck to the left in attempt to avoid hitting the boy, but he was clipped.
Doerr said the toddler was taken to a San Diego children’s hospital with major injuries.
It is not known how the boy managed to wander onto the highway, KNSD reported.
CHP is investigating the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
