Jason Winters, who is the sole commissioner for Chattooga County, was getting ready to convene Friday’s meeting when the incident occurred.
Casie Bryant, a reporter for the news blog All On Georgia, was attending the meeting, according to the Chattanooga Times and Free Press. According to witnesses, Abbey Winters poured the drink on Bryant and said, "You deserve that," the newspaper reported.
In a video posted by All On Georgia, Jason Winters reacts by saying, "Oh, my God," and nodded his head as liquid can be heard off-camera.
“Well, that’s classy,” one woman is heard saying off-camera.'
“No. Every bit of this has been brought on,” Jason Winters said.
It is not clear what the Abbey Winters and Jason Winters were referring to.
Sgt. Ty Hutchins, of the Summerville Police Department, said several witnesses said Bryant did nothing to provoke Winters during the meeting.
After Bryant left the meeting, Abbey Winters met with her attorney, WTVC reported.
After the meeting, Abbey Winters told officers she had accidentally poured the drink on Bryant’s head after “stumbling and tripping near her,” according to an incident report.
