A company that collaborates with local alcohol retailers to deliver beer and wine has entered the Dayton market.

Vroom Delivery has partnered with convenience stores in the Riverside and Fairborn areas and launched delivery in much of the Dayton-area market as of last week, and it will add a third and fourth retailer soon to expand the delivery footprint to the Centerville area and other portions of Dayton and its suburbs, Vroom marketing director John Sabo said today, Aug. 31.

Vroom launched its service in the Cincinnati, northern Cincinnati and Oxford earlier this year. The company is offering a $5-off-the-first-order promotion for new customers, Sabo said.

Customers can peruse their local store’s menu on the Vroom web site and place an order via credit card. The partner convenience store supplies the driver and sets delivery charges, minimums and delivery areas, Sabo said. The driver checks the customers’ photo ID upon delivery, ensuring it matches with the credit card used in the purchase and that the buyer is 21 or over.

The alcohol menu is limited to beer, wine and other drinks that are under 42 proof. Under state law, spirituous liquor — anything over 21 percent alcohol — cannot be delivered.

Arrow Wine & Spirits, which operates stores in Kettering and Washington Twp., has delivered beer and wine in the Dayton area since its inception in 1934. Arrow’s name is derived from its delivery service. Dorothy Lane Market also delivers beer and wine; Meijer added home delivery of alcohol to stores in Michigan last month, but there’s been no word yet when and if the service would come to Ohio.

The company is developing a marketing strategy to launch Vroom in cities and towns nationwide, according to Convenience Store News (
