New clothing store in the works at the Dayton Mall

The Dayton Mall is poised to add a new — and locally owned — clothing store.

Dayton native Michael Ford has signed a lease for space on the Dayton Mall's second floor near JC Penney and will open a second location of The Selfmade Store on Feb. 18, Ford told this news outlet this afternoon, Feb. 6. The store's original location at 3273 Siebenthaler Ave. in the Northwest Plaza will remain open, Ford said.

Ford created his clothing line in 2014 and opened his store in the Northwest Plaza in November 2015.

“The response has been so strong, and demand has been so high, I felt like I needed to open another store on the other end of town so I can reach more people,” Ford said.

Selfmade Store will sell t-shirts, sweatshirts, sports jackets, jogging suits, leather coats, leggings, and clothing for children and toddlers, and can customize clothing with photographs and embroidery, Ford said.

Ford said he wants to continue to expand the line of stores, perhaps in the Columbus area, after he gets the Dayton Mall store up and running.

Ford is encouraging customers to come to the grand opening on Feb. 18 because video for a 30-second commercial will be shot throughout the day.
