NEW DETAILS: Beer & wine garden gears up to open inside the Dayton Mall

A local food truck is moving closer to launching its first location that isn’t on wheels, and is now shooting for an April opening inside the Dayton Mall, mall and restaurant officials said.

Andrew Payne, owner of Hunger Paynes food truck, said he would like to open his Hunger Paynes Beer & Wine Garden — locate inside the Dayton Mall near Macy’s on the mall’s lower level, near Center Court — in late April.

Plans call for the new Hunger Paynes Beer & Wine Garden to serve some of the same signature croquettes offered by the Hunger Paynes food truck, Payne has said.

The new pub will have 12 taps that will be devoted to local and regional breweries, and it will also offer wines with an emphasis on local and regional wineries, the founder said. A signature wine slushie also is planned. The food menu will extend beyond croquettes to include offerings such as tacos and cheese plates.

There are no plans to retire the food truck, which will continue operating as usual, according to Payne, who worked in several bricks-and-mortar restaurants and country club kitchens prior to launching his mobile unit in 2013.
