A new Submarine House sports bar is hiring servers, bartenders and kitchen staff as it prepares to open in the Normandy Square Shopping Center in Washington Twp.

“I’d say we’re probably looking at late December to the first of the year,” said Jeremy McDaniel, the franchisee for the new sports bar coming to 503 Miamisburg-Centerville Road. The space previously housed a Blockbuster Video but has been vacant for several years.

The new Submarine House will seat 160 and will employ about 40, McDaniel said. An existing, smaller Submarine House sub shop five blocks west at 1000 Miamisburg-Centerville Road will shut down when the larger Normandy Square bar-and-grill concept opens, and its 14 employees will transfer to the new restaurant.

McDaniel told us he's still looking to hire about two dozen people. Interested persons can apply at www.submarinehouse.com/wpsubmarinehouse/careers.

The Dayton-based sports bar and sub shop chain also is hiring kitchen staff for its Huber Heights location, which opened this fall at 5376 Taylorsville Road near Ohio 202.

Founded in 1973 with a location on Brown Street near the University of Dayton, Submarine House opened its first bar-and-grill concept in 2006, and now operates nine locations, six of them bar-and-grills. Eight of the restaurants are in the Dayton area, and one bar-and-grill is in Hilliard in suburban Columbus.

The new Huber Heights and Washington Twp. locations are Submarine House’s largest to date.

"I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised," Brody Danner, the chain's co-owner, told us in August.
