“Rick and I are thrilled,” Johannes said. “We appreciate everyone who voted for Mr Boro’s Tavern and who realize what type of investment we have in the Springboro community.”
The voter approval will allow the tavern to open and serve alcohol on Sundays — a key day of sales for pubs, and pivotal for Mr. Boro’s future success, Johannes said.
“We realize how important sports are on Sundays, and Sundays are such a relaxation day for a lot of people to gather with friends or just simply hang out for a while,” Johannes said. “Rick and I appreciate each and every individual who took the time to vote.
“Even the people who voted no will hopefully come around and stop in for a pizza or a gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich and a cold one.”

Mr. Boro’s Tavern is gearing up to open in the former Bella Vino Wine Merchant & Bar, retail space that has been vacant for about two years. Johannes said she and Baarlaer are shooting for a December opening. “Our target is before Christmas,” she said.
The pub will seat about 80 inside and another 25 on its patio, Johannes has said. It will employ 10 to 15 people.
Mr. Boro’s Tavern will focus on local breweries’ selections, and its menu will include sandwiches, salads and pizza.
"We're aiming for a neighborhood tavern kind of atmosphere," Baarlaer told this news outlet in July, when he applied for a liquor license for the tavern.
The space had housed a wine bar/pub/wine shop for more than 15 years. A wine bar called Mulligan’s Wine & Stuff opened there in 1998. The wine bar went through ownership and name changes, becoming Grapes of Ruth and ultimately Bella Vino, before shutting down in June 2015.
