A new, family-owned Vietnamese restaurant with a rather intriguing name is gearing up to open near the Mall at Fairfield Commons and Wright State University.
The new restaurant is coming to 3464 Pentagon Blvd., in the retail center that also houses The Wharf and Eye Mart, and its name is “Wat da Pho.”
The often-mispronounced “pho” is pronounced “fuh.”
Wat da Pho is the brainchild of husband-and-wife team of Todd and Trish Dang, who will oversee Wat da Pho with the help of their family.
“I love to eat, and I love to cook, and I want to share that with others,” Trish Dang said.
The 2,000-square-foot restaurant will seat 53. It will serve a variety of Vietnamese specialties, including, of course, the traditional noodle soup called pho, along with sandwiches and rice dishes.
Dang said she and her husband liked the location’s proximity to WSU and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Soin Medical Center is also just down the street.
The restaurant’s founders are shooting for a mid-January opening, Dang said.
The dining scene in the area in and around the Mall at Fairfield Commons and WSU has been quite active in the last two years, particularly in recent months.
Mall officials earlier this month announced that Melt Bar & Grilled would build a free-standing restaurant just outside the retail center. BRAVO Cucina Italiano, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse and Chuy’s Tex Mex all have opened on mall property, and Primanti Bros. and IHOP are among the restaurants that have opened along North Fairfield Road near the mall.
Along Colonel Glenn Highway just west of the mall, new Chipotle and Rapid Fired Pizza restaurants have opened, and two weeks ago, the Wandering Griffin brewpub and coffee shop started serving customers in a former Quaker Steak & Lube space.
Logan’s Roadhouse and Don Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant are among the handful of restaurants in and around the mall that have shut down in the past year.
