UPDATE:

The 13 Panera Bread restaurants in the Dayton-Springfield area are operated by Warren, Ohio-based Covelli Enterprises, which is the largest franchisee of Panera Bread cafes in the U.S., with more than 300 locations in six states.

The franchisee announced in 2014 that it had purchased the then-11 Dayton- and Springfield-area Panera locations, and said it had aggressive growth plans for the Dayton market.

And last year alone, it opened two new locations: in Englewood and Huber Heights.

We reached out to a spokeswoman for Covelli this morning to find out what impact the sale of Panera may have on its largest franchisee, but she declined comment, referring questions to Panera’s corporate headquarters.

FIRST REPORT:

Panera Bread has been sold.
