The company, listed on city documents as Dayton 3rd DOHP, did not return calls for comment. But a Tennessee-based company called Dayton DOHP acquired a site in West Carrollton in 2014 that quickly became a Dollar General.
A Dollar General spokesperson said the company is in the due diligence phase for a new store in Dayton but did not specify the potential location.
“This means we are reviewing the opportunity to add a new store in the area, but we have not committed to doing so just yet,” said Angela Petkovic, a Dollar General spokesperson.
Based on the timeline, Dollar General anticipates having a final decision by spring, she said.

Almost exactly one year ago, the Food for Less in East Dayton caught fire and was destroyed. The site sits empty today.
The destruction of the store was bad news for an area that doesn’t have a lot of healthy food options nearby and is home to many low-income families.
Food pantries saw a spike in customers after Food for Less was lost. But the plan for the site is a 9,100-square-foot Dollar General, according to city documents.
Dollar General has about 13 locations in Dayton and more across the region. It usually serves customers within a three- to five-mile radius, or a 10-minute drive, Petkovic said.
Dollar General sells a variety of packaged foods and some refrigerated foods and frozen foods.
The store also sells name-brand and private-brand merchandise like health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing, the company said.
