Miller said this is one of the biggest projects in the revitalization of the theater since it reopened in October 2017 and that this project will cost more than $200,000 to complete. He said the new installation is expected to be completed by mid-March.
“The construction crews have been working non-stop to complete this project,” he said. “We have had wonderful partnerships in making this happen. Miracle Welding completed fabrication of an HVAC platform and installed the piece in the middle of January.
“It’s been an amazing time inside the opera house.”
Miller said crews have spent recent weeks removing the rooftop chiller. He said once that work is completed, they will continue to work on the roof and add support beams before the stage unit can be placed and put in service.
Sorg Board Member Ken Bowman said David Hosea and the crew of Hosea Project Movers provided a boom truck and their expertise in getting the 2,200-pound HVAC units precisely into position on the theater’s roof.
“Without their boom truck and skill, it would have been a much more expensive task,” Bowman said.
He said the Music Hall seats had to be removed to allow room for the new duct work. In addition, most of the duct work and natural gas lines have been installed by Robinson Heating and Cooling.
Miller said Duke Energy is close to completing new transformer installation work and that Price Electric has been installing junction boxes and conduits while working closely with the Sorg team on stage and house electric enhancements.
The Sorg Opera House has also joined the League of Historic American Theatres, a non-profit organization of more than 380 historic theaters across North America with the purpose of sustaining these venues for the benefit of their communities and future generations.

The renovations will open the path for a set of performances beginning this spring.
Rob Hoffman & the Influence will put on a “He Sang, She Sang” show on April 6 to benefit the Sorg’s renovation.
Jayne Sachs, now a staff songwriter for a Nashville firm and an award-winning author in the UK Songwriting Contest, will also perform.
