Study: Miami Twp. land near airport can capture defense, aviation jobs

Land next to the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport in Miami Twp. would be best suited for flex research and development, and light industrial uses, according to a study.

The land – potentially more than 80 acres – “presents an excellent opportunity for the township to capitalize on the strong aviation and defense sectors present in the Dayton market and capture the higher-paying wages that come with these types of sectors,” according to the study.

The report, obtained recently, was commissioned by the Miami Twp.-Dayton Joint Economic Development District Board of Directors, a panel created by the township and the city of Dayton to oversee development at the 527-acre airport and surrounding land.

The study – which focuses on land east of the airport and south of Austin Boulevard – was completed as part of a long-term plan for the area. The report by Juniper CRE Solutions examined a variety of factors, including area economic trends and the real estate market.
