Sushi burrito restaurant to open in downtown Hamilton

Owners of growing Roll On In franchise also plan to open a breakfast concept in the same building.

The owners of a new local sushi burrito franchise plan to open a downtown Hamilton location in March.

Roll On In is expected to debut in late February or early March at 102 Main St., the former site of J. Austin’s Riverbank Cafe, a restaurant that closed in September.

Co-owners John Kallenberger and Michael McCarthy, both of Cincinnati, started Roll On In in Lebanon in June 2016, adding locations in Loveland and Clifton thereafter.

The restaurant, which signed a five-year lease with two five-year extensions, is hiring approximately 20 employees and takes possession of the building on Jan. 8.

The two men also plan to start breakfast concept Rise N Shine, a pilot restaurant that will mix very healthy breakfast fare and a classic farm-hearty breakfast.

Both restaurants will share the main entrance and split the space within the building.

“We have a very seasoned high-end breakfast chef David Botner joining our team for the breakfast concept,” Kallenberger said. “He will mesh in well with all of our seasoned sushi chefs from the Roll On In staff.”

Kallenberger said told this news outlet that he loves Hamilton, having owned body shops in the city and lived there for 12 years.

“It was an easy choice,” he said. “Hamilton is doing everything right to grow businesses and bring people downtown.”

Kallenberger said he used to dine at Riverbank Cafe and likes the building’s location on the corner of two major roads.

“Plus, it has its own parking lot. That was key to us,” he said.

It likely also helps that Oxford-based Quarter Barrel Brewery & Pub is set to open its rooftop dining experience just across the street next month at the southwest corner of Main and B streets.
