R Taco eyes 2nd Dayton-area location at Caddy’s Tap House Beavercreek space

The local franchisee for R Taco — which opened its first location in Ohio 13 months ago on Brown Street near the University of Dayton — applied for liquor licenses Wednesday to serve beer, wine and spirits at the site of the existing Caddy's Tap House at 2760 Towne Drive in Beavercreek.
The Dallas, Texas-based street-taco restaurant chain announced in November 2017 that it had signed a multi-unit agreement with Dayton-based franchise owner ThreeWitt Enterprises Inc. to greatly expand R Taco's footprint across central and southwest Ohio.

“We signed a 13 location agreement that basically gives us the southern half of Ohio and Northern Kentucky,” ThreeWitt co-owner John Slaughenhaupt said at the time. “This area includes Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati.”

Efforts to reach Slaughenhaupt and Caddy’s Tap House owner Billy Joe Deck for comment today were unsuccessful. The 240-seat Caddy’s was open and serving lunch today.

The Cadillac Jacks location at the Beavercreek site transformed into Caddy’s Tap House, with 47 craft-beer taps, a new food menu, and a significant makeover to its interior, in September 2014.

Cadillac Jack’s co-founder Deck said at the time that the total cost of the transformation reached $250,000. An existing patio is now enclosed, a gazebo was added to provide open-air space, beer-hall-style community tables were installed in some portions of the dining area, and the number of beer taps were doubled.

“This is basically a brand new restaurant,” Deck said.

A similar renovation and name change occurred at the Cadillac Jacks location on Ohio 741 in Miami Twp., but that location shut down last year. Rooster’s is gearing up to open in that space.

Deck, who opened the Beavercreek Cadillac Jacks more than 14 years ago, said in 2014 that increased competition led him to renovate and re-brand the sports bar located east of North Fairfield Road near the Mall at Fairfield Commons.

“It seems like everyone is opening a sports bar these days,” Deck said. “We’re trying to stay one level ahead of everyone else.”

Caddy’s Beavercreek was the site of three incidents in July and August 2017 in which arrests were made, including former University of Dayton Flyers basketball player Sam Miller, who was arrested at Caddy's for disorderly conduct. Police said Miller was accused of pushing a female bartender and acting belligerently in the back of a Beavercreek police cruiser while on the way to jail.
