A hungry squirrel chewing into the wires of Christmas tree lights has been driving officials of a New Jersey borough nuts.
The annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in Sea Girt was threatened earlier this week when wires were severed, WNBC reported. Police originally believed vandals were responsible, and the wiring was repaired in time for Friday's ceremony.
On Saturday, police said that surveillance cameras showed the squirrel trying to gnaw through the wires that morning.
Police said they were unable to catch the squirrel and that the Christmas display will now be under constant surveillance to make sure the critter doesn’t strike yet again.
