Bill Shancey, the owner of the Shantz Express food truck, says he hopes to open a brick and mortar store by Oct. 1 at 5993 Bigger Road near Bee-Gee's Market in Kettering.

He plans to continue operating the food truck after his business joins the growing list of eateries that started as food trucks.

A cook for 30 years, Shancey launched his Shantz Express three years ago.

He says his pizza and wings “sell like crazy.”

The new carry-out and delivery restaurant will also sell a variety of subs and cheese fries.

“And we will have some surprises as well,” the Pittsburgh native said.

Shancey said it makes sense to open a restaurant.

“It just keeps the income going all year for one thing, whereas the truck is seasonal,” he said. “I wanted to have an outlet that was accessible year-round.”

Shancey said he plans to offer “buy one, get one free pizza” deals.

He said the restaurant will be in a good location near the Victoria’s Secret call center and several apartments.

The space is also in good shape to be transformed for his restaurant’s needs.

Someone started to build it out and then they got sidetracked, he said.
