Tickets added for food adventure to hidden gem with ‘amazing’ grub

Ethnosh Dayton has sold out of evening seatings for its Sunday, Nov. 24, meal at La Costenita Mexican Restaurant, at 2701 E. 3rd St.

Here’s that good news: Peter Benkendorf, an Ethnosh Dayton organizer, says a lunch seating for 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. has been added.

The meal is $18 per person plus a small processing fee.

Sometimes the best food is hiding in plain sight.

The organizers of Ethnosh Dayton say that is the case for their next culinary stop: La Costenita Mexican Restaurant, at 2701 E. 3rd St.

"They are in a part of town that very few people would consider exploring, which means they get very little traffic from non-Latinos/Hispanics," Michael Groomes of Ethnosh said. "The food is extremely amazing and after getting to know the owner (Xitlalli Chavez), she has an incredible story to tell as well as she takes extreme pride in her food she makes."

The NoshUp at La Costeñita is planned for Sunday, Nov. 24.

The first seating is 4 to 5:30 p.m. The second seating is 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Guests can bring their own adult beverages.

There is an option to select regular (meat), vegan or vegetarian meals at checkout.

Groomes said Ethnosh strives to bring people to immigrant-owned restaurants and provide an experience that allows them to understand the food, the people who create it and where they originate.

“La Costenita has a unique story as it is an Oaxacan immigrant that owns it and she prepares foods unique to her home region, similar to La Michoacana preparing foods found within the Michoacan region,” Groomes said. “We are trying to make sure that we mix up the offerings so there is not two of the same food genre back to back but something different each time.

"Being off the beaten path isn't a prerequisite, but we want to do more of the places that aren't as well known but offer very good cuisine," Groomes said.  "We will eventually schedule some of the more patronized locations as we move forward but felt it important to give businesses that are either making ends meet or trying to grow first shot and opportunity."
