Arepas & Co. raises money for cancer research today

The locally owned Arepas & Co. Colombian Comfort Food restaurants in Washington Twp., Kettering and downtown Dayton have declared 2019 as "the year to give back," and they're putting their money behind their declaration today and every subsequent Thursday through February to help raise money for cancer research, according to Arepas & Co. co-owner Lisa Perdomo.

Today and the next four Thursdays, all Arepas locations are providing a portion of sales to lymphoma research in partnership with Centerville schools student Jaynie Pulaski, who will be hosting some of the fund-raising efforts, Perdomo said.

In addition to donating a portion of sales, Arepas restaurants are raffling off gift cards.

Plans are in the works for Motorcycles for Melanoma on Mondays in May fund-raising effort, Perdomo said.

Arepas & Co. opened its first location in the Second Street Market in downtown Dayton in 2012. Its current restaurants are located at 1122 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering, which opened in 2014; in the former Olive Urban Dive/Wympee’s space at 416 E. Third St. in downtown Dayton, which in January 2016; and at 1000 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Twp., which opened in June 2017.

Arepas & Co. specializes in comfort foods from different regions of Colombia, South America, including Arepas, Empanadas, Mazorca, Yuca Fries, and Choclo. Additional menu items will make their debut in early March, Perdomo said.
