Ask anyone in Texas about Chuy’s, and they’ll say things like “great food,” “great happy hour specials,” “yummy margaritas” and “great prices.”
The Tex-Mex chain, which got its start in Austin, Texas, will open its first Dayton-area location sometime in April at Austin Landing. That’s right — straight from Austin, Texas, to Austin Landing.
We had the chance to attend a special sneak preview event Thursday out in a tent at Austin Landing. We were able to sample a few goodies from Chuy’s menu.
Here are three reasons why we are pumped about this new dining destination.
1. Holy guacamole
This guac is the real deal, my friends. We watched a Chuy’s staffer whip up this batch. It’s fresh, creamy and so simple (freshly peeled avocados with fresh salsa), yet so addicting. I’m not one to normally get so excited over guac (queso, however is a different story). But I could have literally licked the bowl. You’ll be happy to know that I decided to keep it classy, just this once. The guac goes perfectly with the thin and crispy tostado chips. The guac alone will seriously be worth the trip to Austin Landing.
2. The drinks
We sampled some margaritas last night. Like any margarita, it was crisp and refreshing. This one was strong and packed a powerful punch. I prefer my margaritas in traditional form, but Chuy’s definitely thinks outside the box with its cocktails, such as the Mexican martini, which is infused with green chiles and served with jalapeno-stuffed olives. Other cocktail offerings will include margarita variations, martinis, sangria, beer and a frozen lime margarita topped with a 7-ounce Coronita.
3. Fun, affordable menu items
Expect simple appetizers ranging from nachos with an assortment of toppings and accompaniments, such as queso, refried beans, chicken or beef, ranchero sauce and more. Other menu items will include salads, tortilla soup, “Big as Yo’ Face” burritos and house specialties including enchiladas, flautas and even Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken (by the way, Chuy’s loves Elvis and celebrates The King as often as possible, we hear). Just about everything on the menu is under $12. Chuy’s will offer curbside to go and party-to-go catering. Yes!!!
