Why it rates: Pine Club boasts a national reputation as one of the best steak houses in the country. USA Today names it “One of the USA’s best steakhouses.” The New York Times called it “one of the world’s 10 greatest old dining establishments.” The menu offers over 20 different entrees and diverse options for sides. Make sure you bring cash, though, as they do not accept credit cards. They’ll also accept personal checks, or you can even open a Pine Club personal house account.

2. Oakwood Club

Why it rates: The Oakwood Club is known for steaks, prime rib and wide variety of menu options. Popular appetizers include the beef carpaccio: thinly sliced beef tenderloin, garnished with red onions capers, parmesan cheese complemented extra virgin olive oil and toasted focaccia bread. Favorite entrees include the New York strip, available in three different sizes, 13 oz regular cut, 10 oz and 80z (smaller sizes). Staff members are friendly and do the best they can to accommodate customer’s meal preferences.

Why it rates: The Tavernette Inn, established in 1939, is one of the area’s best kept restaurant secrets, boasting atmosphere and ambiance that goes on for days. The menu is a terrific companion to the throwback setting. The New York Strip ($23.95) is a great cut grilled to order and well worth it.
