What to do, see and eat in New Carlisle

With a population under 6,000 people, this quaint town may be unfamiliar to some, but New Carlisle isn’t without its charm.

First, make a stop for a cup of Boston Stoker Coffee at Penny Lane Art Gallery and Coffee Shop. With a near-perfect Google review score, this 4.8-star rated coffee shop boasts homemade food, locally-made artwork, gifts, candies, jams, soaps and more. They also host an open mic night every Friday from 6-8 p.m., if you're looking to share your talent on a new stage.

After that, head over to Abe's Hidden Treasures -- which is housed in the "famous" former bank once robbed by John Dillinger -- and discover Warm Glow candles, bath bombs, salt lamps, wax melts, glass decor and more.

By this time, you've probably gained an appetite. Luckily there's a small cafe with big portions just down the way. Stage Coach Café may only be open through lunch, but their sizable portions of chicken and noodles, homemade soups and chili, banana and coconut cream pie will fill you through the day. Guests have noted the chicken and tuna salad, taco soup and patty melt are menu must-tries.

Once you're good and full, head over to World Threads Import Boutique and discover a new world of style. Another top-rated stop, this boutique is filled with a variety of tops, skirts, accessories and dusters from designers all over the world. The owner regularly takes trips over seas to stock her shop with unique, handmade items.
