Baseball highlight videos of outfielders climbing the wall to rob hitters of home runs are plentiful What you don’t normally see is a player scaling the fence, only to have the ball drop in front of him on the field of play.

That happened to St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Marcel Ozuna, who attempted a perfect leap to snag the baseball before it cleared the fence during Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The problem? The ball was nowhere near the fence

During the eighth inning at Busch Stadium, Ozuna raced to the wall to chase a fly ball hit by Kiké Hernandez. After jumping, Ozuna realized the ball was falling several feet in front of the warning track.

Ozuna literally fell flat on his face, and the ball skipped past him and bounced into the stands, giving Hernandez a ground-rule double. Meanwhile, the pitchers in the Dodgers bullpen had a great laugh at Ozuna’s expense.

It’s a highlight video, but not the kind Ozuna will enjoy. Fortunately for him and the Cardinals, the gaffe did not figure into the final result, as the Cardinals won 4-0.
