Officers were called to the family’s home on Cocoa Drive around 10 p.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, Scott Bailey, Sr. was found in his bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police said the 15-year-old’s account of what happened changed throughout the night.

In the end, he told investigators he went into his father’s bedroom to look for a gun in the dresser, police said. He claimed that it accidentally fired and hit his dad in the forehead, police said.

Police said the teen told police he then took a shower, changed clothes, cleaned his room, and drove to visit a friend in Antioch, Tenn. Eventually he came home with that friend and called 911, police said.

More than three hours had passed from the time he shot his father, according to police. Police said the gun was found in the console of the teen’s car.

The 15-year-old is charged with attempted murder, crack cocaine possession, unlawful possession of a weapon and evidence tampering.

His father was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is listed in critical, life-threatening condition.
