LENDING A HAND: Pizza Bandit reaches out to help Ghostlight Coffee during temporary closure

‘Pizza Bagels’ will be available today, Nov. 12, to assist fellow independent business

As it turns out, Dayton foodie destinations have each other’s backs when times are tough.

Ghostlight Coffee decided Tuesday that it would close both its locations temporarily after a staff member at its Midtown location on South Patterson Boulevard tested positive for coronavirus.

The owners of the Pizza Bandit food truck, located at Yellow Cab Tavern at 700 E. Fourth St., decided they would use creativity — and Ghostlight bagels — to help out their fellow business.

“We have 6 dozen of their (Ghostlight) signature freshly boiled and baked old world bagels available by the singles, six pack... and wait for it.... PIZZA BAGELS!!” The Pizza Bandit posted on Facebook Thursday afternoon, Nov. 12. “Listen, we could not be more bummed for our friends. Everything sucks right now. But, if there’s a silver lining, it is pizza on their artisan bagels.”

Customers can choose cheese or pepperoni, dips, add mushrooms if they want, and since Ghostlight’s bagels are vegan, one could make a tasty vegan treat with The Pizza Bandit’s vegan cheese.

Available bagels varieties include plain, salt n' pepper or Tuscan garlic. Bagels can be ordered for carryout, delivery, or on-site dining at iampizzabandit.com.

The pizza bagels for sale today, Nov. 12, come a day after the Pizza Bandit helped sell 60 “Ghost Tarts” that Ghostlight Coffee had made shortly before having to shut down temporarily. “Needless to say, we’ve got good friends!” Ghostlight Coffee founder Shane Anderson wrote on the coffee shop’s Facebook page.

The Pizza Bandit expects the collaboration pizza bagels to sell out Thursday. The truck is open today, Nov. 12, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“We are working closely with the health department [and] will be temporarily closing both locations until contact tracing and appropriate testing is done,” the coffee shop posted Wednesday on social media, including Twitter. “We will reopen only after following all appropriate health department and CDC guidelines.”
