5 reasons you can't miss Christmas in Historic Springboro festival

Who doesn’t want an excuse to celebrate Christmas early? (Don't act like you didn't try to open Christmas presents early when you were a kid.)

Christmas in Historic Springboro, the biggest weekend-long holiday festival, is back for its 29th year. It kicks off Friday, Nov. 20 and continues until Sunday, Nov. 22.

This year’s theme is “Bicentennial Christmas,” and the massive holiday festival encompasses all seven blocks of historic downtown Springboro. Here are a few reasons you should definitely check it out.

  • 1. Shopping

Holiday shopping is the name of the game when it comes to the Christmas in Historic Springboro festival. In fact, the festival’s sole purpose when it was created in 1987 was "to present a Christmas shopping experience and to show off our historic center of town, all decked out for the holidays,” according to the festival website.

This year, shopping remains the main focus, with hundreds of heated craft booths selling unique and memorable items. It's the perfect place to get some Christmas shopping out of the way before the big holiday rush, and find one-of-a-kind gifts for your loved ones.

  • 2. Parade

The parade begins at noon on Saturday, Nov. 21 and runs through the heart of historic Springboro. The floats will be fully decked out around this year's "Bicentennial Christmas" theme for an opportunity to win first, second and third place trophies. It's quite the spectacle.

  • 3. Enjoy the holidays, guilt-free

With the impending Thanksgiving feast on the horizon, a 5K jaunt might help you enjoy the holidays guilt-free. Runners, joggers and walkers are invited to register for the 4th Annual Christmas in Springboro 5k Fun Run. Proceeds raised from registration will go to fund Operation Santa at the Springboro Police Department and Melanoma Know More.

Parking will be limited, due to closure of Main Street during the festival. The festival organizers recommend that Fun Run participants park at Jonathan Wright School.

  • 4. Entertainment

There’s nothing to get you amped up for Christmas like spirited, holiday music. Enjoy some tunes at the entertainment tent located at the intersection of East Market and Main in downtown Springboro.

  • 5. Children's tent
