After 14 months of carryout only, Barrel House ready to welcome back patrons

A staple source for local beer in downtown Dayton is ready to bring back on-site consumption.

The Barrel House, located at 417 E. Third St., has operated on a carryout only basis with limited hours since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Wednesday, June 2, The Barrel House will begin temporary hours of operation for on-site consumption.

Moving forward, The Barrel House will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

From 11 a.m. to noon each day, the bar will continue to be carryout only, as the hour is reserved for people who may be at risk, immunocompromised or people who are not yet ready to be around unmasked strangers, according to The Barrel House’s announcement on its Facebook page.

“For 14 months we battened down the hatches, and did everything in our power to operate safely for our community, guests, and staff, while also trying desperately to stay afloat, and it looks like we’ve made it through to the other side,” wrote The Barrel House on Facebook on Sunday, May 23. “To everyone who supported us in the last 14 months, thank you, we quite literally would no longer be here without you.”

The Barrel House described how it will be taking “baby steps back to normal.”

“Please keep in mind that reopening for on-site consumption after operating as a carryout with limited hours for over a year is uncharted territory for us, and we are going to go at a pace that works for us,” stated the post. “As much time as we’ve spent obsessing over plans and details, the situation is nebulous and new, and we may have to pivot our plans a few times to find what works best for our staff and our space. Please be patient and understanding with us and our staff as we work to get back to operating normally.”

Initially, The Barrel House will enforce a lower capacity of roughly 30 people indoor and about 10 people on its outdoor patio. Owners are also asking patrons who are drinking to be seated.

“As soon as we are able to expand hours and bring events (like Wu-Tang Wednesday, Open Mic Night, etc.) back, we will absolutely let you know, we promise, we can’t wait either,” stated the post.
