The area’s second location of a popular Akron-based pizzeria franchise is less than two weeks from opening shop.

Gionino’s Pizzeria will open its new Kettering restaurant at 4015 Far Hills Ave. at Stroop Road by Thursday, June 10, pending the installation of a pizza oven, according to Tony Clark, Dayton-area franchise owner of Gionino’s. If the instillation is delayed, Clark said the backup opening date is Thursday, June 17.

The tenant space in the Castle Hills Shopping Center, located across from the Town & Country retail center, previously housed an Edible Arrangements shop that relocated within Kettering in July 2020.

Details for any kind of grand opening event were not immediately available. However, the franchise posted to its Facebook page that “it wants to give those who have followed our journey on this location a special offer.”

“Simply sign up using this link http://bit.ly/GioninosKetteringGrandOpening and we will email you an exclusive offer for our Grand Opening week,” Gionino’s posted on Monday, May 24.

The new Gionino’s location “will be primarily a take-out and delivery operation, as the space is not large enough to accommodate indoor seating,” Clark said.

Clark and his franchise ownership group are excited about the future. “(We are) looking to expand our brand quickly throughout the Dayton region,” he said. “We are already looking into locations for our third and fourth stores. If all goes well, we will hopefully start the build-out for those stores later this year.”

The new Kettering carryout and delivery restaurant will employ about 20.

Gionino’s Pizzeria opened its first Miami Valley restaurant on East Third Street in Dayton’s Huffman Historic Area in May 2019.

Clark grew up across the street from the very first Gionino’s in Akron. It was a cherished and delicious part of his childhood and he said he can’t wait for Dayton to see what all the hype is about, including “Jo-Jo’s” — deep-fried potato wedges fried with the same breading as the pizzeria’s fried chicken.
