Dave Chappelle to host post-election SNL again tonight

Comedian Dave Chappelle is set to host the first post-election “Saturday Night Live” tonight, Nov. 7. He also hosted the last post-presidential election episode, filmed in 2016.

Chappelle, a Yellow Springs resident, will host the show with the Foo Fighters as musical guests. The Foo Fighters last played the show on December 16, 2017.

In the trailer released from NBC to tease the show, the Foo Fighters want to call it ahead of time. Chappelle tries to stop them.

“Damn it, Dave,” Chappelle says at the end of the trailer. “You should have let them watch it.”

HOW/WHEN & WHERE TO WATCH: 11:30 p.m. on NBC

David Letterman and Chappelle filmed in front of a live audience at the Wirrig Pavilion property near Yellow Springs earlier this summer. Letterman released his third season of “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman” to Netflix in late October. The third episode is a 52-minute interview with Chappelle.

The footage for Letterman’s show was filmed during one of Chappelle’s outdoor comedy events last summer, referred to as “An Intimate Socially Distanced Affair."

Chappelle’s outdoor comedy events included other guests, such as Jon Stewart, Chris Rock, Tiffany Haddish, Jon Hamm, Michael Che, Erykah Badu, Michelle Wolf, Common, Donnell Rawlings, Talib Kweli, Cipha Sounds and Mo Amer, among others.

To host the Yellow Springs shows, Chappelle received permission to host the shows from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine because of strict safety protocols in place. A zoning variance was granted to allow the shows to be hosted at the pavilion.

The comedian also released a Netflix special in June in which he discussed the Black Lives Matter movement and George Floyd’s death.
