Duck Donuts opens a new area location TODAY

Duck Donuts is opening its fourth Ohio location today, April 13, in Warren County.

The new location opens at 8 a.m. at 5635 Deerfield Blvd. in Deerfield Twp.’s Deerfield Towne Center. The first customer through the doors for the store’s grand opening gets a special prize package. Every 100th customer gets a dozen doughnuts for free.

Customers may select from a signature assortment of fan favorites and seasonal offerings. The more adventurous start with a light vanilla cake-based doughnut straight from the fryer “so it’s crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside,” according to spokeswoman Kristin Kellum.

The taste treat then gets coated with your choice of cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glazed, maple, lemon, chocolate, peanut butter, blueberry or bare.

That gets topped with rainbow sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles, graham cracker crumbles, chopped peanuts, shredded coconut or Oreo crumbles, then drizzled with hot fudge, marshmallow, salted caramel, raspberry, blackberry or any of the coating options.

“It’s all completely made to-order,” Kellum said. “There’s no doughnuts just sitting on a shelf.”

Duck Donuts also offers doughnut breakfast sandwiches, doughnut sundaes featuring Breyer’s ice cream and signature coffee blends, tea and espresso drinks.

The Deerfield Towne Center location is among the first few stores to sport the franchise’s new interior format, said spokeswoman Kristin Kellum.

“Our biggest thing is we switched our topping table so before you would see the back of employees topping the doughnut but now it’s all customer-facing and you see it all happening in front of you from start to finish,” Kellum said.

Duck Donuts, which debuted in 2006, takes its name from one of its first locations in Duck, N.C. It launched its first franchise in Williamsburg, Va. in 2013.

Local franchise co-owner Kerry Foley said her family was vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and would go to Duck Donuts as a tradition.

“We started asking a couple of questions and found out that they were franchising and we’re excited about the opportunity to bring it to Ohio,” Foley said. “We love the community here and … we know that they’re very involved. That was a great appeal for us.”

This is the fourth Ohio location for Duck Donuts, following locations in Westerville, Dayton and Dublin. There are now 64 open franchise locations and more than 130 additional contracts in 23 states. Another 130 are set to open in the next four years, 90 of them by the end of this year, Kellum said.

“It’s very quick growth for us and we’re excited about that,” she said.
