According to the Fishers Police Department, the attack occurred Tuesday morning, WISH reported. One person suffered a bite mark on the arm, Fishers Police Sgt. Tom Weger told the Indianapolis Star. The shoppers did not intentionally approach the goose, but they were attacked when they got too close, Weger told the newspaper.

"This was just a situation where a wild animal was protecting one of its own and felt like it was in danger," Weger told the Star.

Canada geese are currently in their nesting season, which lasts until June, WXIN reported. Because of that, the geese are particularly aggressive, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Jason Apple, who manages a restaurant next door to the Fishers Walmart, told WISH he would definitely warn his staff and customers to "be careful walking to their cars."

"It's wild," Apple told the television station. "Very wild. Something you wouldn't expect walking out of Walmart."

Nothing happened to the goose, which remains on the loose.
