Ted Nugent fans can’t bring guns to Huber concert, venue policy says

Fans who plan to see rocker and gun rights activist Ted Nugent won’t be able to bring their guns into the Rose Music Center for his concert on Tuesday night, according to the venue’s policies.

The venue, which is owned by the city of Huber Heights, has a policy that prohibits weapons on its premises. Weapons of any kind are banned, regardless of a concealed carry permit.

Nugent's fans were barred from bringing their guns into a concert in Virginia last week, local TV station WSLS reported.

The Berglund Performing Arts Theater in Roanoke, Virginia, initially was only discouraging fans from bringing firearms to Nugent’s July 17 show. That changed, a spokesperson told WSLS, when the venue was informed that Nugent’s contract prohibited weapons.

“It happened about five minutes before we opened doors, we had a security meeting before we opened doors and the subject came up and we said, ‘Yes people will be bringing firearms,’” Robyn Schon, the venue’s general manager, said. “And Nugent’s people said, ‘Uh, no, our agreement says no.’ ”

Schon said Nugent’s team prohibited guns in the contact because of events like the Pulse nightclub shooting.

Nugent's spokeswoman Linda Peterson denied Schon's claims in an email to the Orlando Sentinel.

“Ted always allows legally carried guns into his shows,” Peterson told this news organization today by email.

“The venue made an announcement requesting that people leave their guns in their cars without consulting us,” Peterson said in the email.

Nugent will perform at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets can be purchased online.

Nugent, a supporter of gun rights and of President Donald Trump, supports open carry. He previously has been criticized for attacking the victims of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting who advocated gun control as "poor, mushy-brained children," according to Vox.
